Cold Plasma Skincare

From Space to At-Home Use

The development of our cold plasma technology began over 20 years ago at the world-renowned Max-Planck Society. Here, numerous experiments were conducted in labs on earth and even aboard the International Space Station. After extensive research and development, the Phlas device was developed with a special focus on skincare.

What is Cold Plasma?

And How Does It Work?

Cold plasma (also known as non-thermal plasma), is a partially ionized gas which exists at near-room temperatures (unlike hot plasmas). It contains a mix of electrons, ions, neutral atoms, and reactive molecules, but only the electrons are at high energy levels, while the heavier particles remain relatively cool. This energy imbalance allows cold plasma to generate reactive species without high temperatures, making it useful for applications such as skincare, wound healing, water treatment and disinfection. Cold plasma is generated by applying an electric field to ambient air or a noble gas, which excites the electrons and initiates ionization and molecular reactions locally.

What our users say

85 % of users with sensitive skin say that they benefit from using Phlas*

Visible results

87 % of users reported that skin impurities (acne marks / pimples / impurities) were significantly reduced after the treatment period.*

Reduces enlarged pores by 27.79%

Studies conducted by the Dermatest Institute with Phlas demonstrate an average reduction of pore size of 27.79% after 8 weeks of use.**

Dermatologically tested and safe

No side-effects, no irritations, no pain – results of extensive safety dermatological testing at Dermatest**, terraplasma GmbH and the University Clinic Regensburg (UKR), a clinic specialising in cold plasma medical applications.

Hygienic spacer system

Our hygienic, disposable, biodegradable spacers keep every application hygienic by preventing germs and oils from spreading. Plus, they’re eco-friendly: simply compost them after use and do something good for the planet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Phlas device suitable for all skin types?

Yes, the Phlas is suitable for all skin types, but was specificially developed for blemished and acne-prone skin, to improve the skin’s overall appearance.

What do I feel when using the Phlas?

You feel a gentle, warm breeze on your skin. In addition, you will smell a fresh and electric scent.

When and how often should I use the Phlas?

Phlas should only be used on clean and dry skin, and each treatment takes 30 seconds (per area). You can use it in the morning and the evening.

How long does it take until I see results with Phlas?

Results may vary from person to person, but many of our study participants reported visible improvement of their skin after only a few days. Skin redness and pimples are often reduced overnight.

Can I use Phlas with other skincare products?

Yes, Phlas can be easily integrated into your daily skincare routine. Please use the device on clean and dry skin, before applying creams and other beauty products.

Is Phlas’ technology comparable to other plasma devices?

Phlas uses terraplasma’s patented technology, which is distinct from other conventional cold plasma devices. Many traditional devices use DBD (Dielectric Barrier Discharge) plasma, which sends an electric current directly through the skin and releases plasma species as a by-product. Phlas uses advanced SMD (Surface Micro Discharge) technology – plasma gas is generated in the air, the active molecules are contained locally in the disposable spacer, and only these gas molecules (without any electrical current) come into contact with the skin. This technological approach makes the treatment exceptionally gentle, while maximizing effectiveness, by delivering the cold plasma molecules directly at the site.
